Preclinical efficacy studies form the fundamental basis of research pharmacology and drug development. In in vivo efficacy studies the pharmacological effects of test compounds are investigated in laboratory animal models that have been developed to mimic the human disease as closely as possible. Such studies are of key importance in order to predict the success of treatment in humans with the disease.
Efficacy studies in mice and rats

Efficacy studies in rabbits and pigs
Additionally, we are conducting efficacy studies in large animal models including rabbits and pigs. With respect to efficacy studies in pigs we both conduct studies in the well characterized Göttingen minipigs as well as domestic pigs. Both physiologically and genetically, the pig in many ways reveals high similarity to humans, which has allowed us to successfully conduct porcine in vivo studies in many different areas such as wound healing, haemostasis, topical applications and proof of concept studies that involves implants and surgical intervention. But also other models have been developed.
